American Airlines Lax to Hong Kong Review Premium Economy

I recently flew my first long haul flying in American Airlines Premium Economy. I've flown this seat on some wide body planes domestically, when it is treated just as standard economy with the amend sear. On a recent trip from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, I did finally become to try out this production on a long flying. This trip is office of a piece of work trip to Singapore. On my flying, I was seated in the front row of the cabin, and I had hoped the leg residue would help with comfort. Maybe it did, but I couldn't get information technology loftier enough to be very comfortable, and the footrest at the lesser is besides curt for someone over half-dozen feet, and probably less.

The American Airlines Premium Economy seat offers 38 inches of pitch and is 19 inches wide. The bulkhead seats on the window sides (row 16) accept much more legroom, due to their placement at an exit door. There are air vents above each seat, and large monitors. I opted for the bulkhead thinking the leg residual would be more than comfortable than a foot bar every bit in other rows. That is probably true, but I didn't discover the leg residuum that comfortable. Lots of legroom is a plus, and even though at that place are ii lavatories directly in front of the seat, it is far enough abroad not exist that much of a distraction. I didn't accept many photos of the cabin, but I did discover some stock photos and an excellent virtual tour of the cabin on American's website. Note that this is a mockup of the cabin, rather than an actual video of the cabin on a 777 in that there seems to exist a solid wall in front of the cabin.  The Business Course cabin is in forepart, with lavatories in betwixt.

Beyond the wider seat, and more legroom, there are some other squeamish improvements from regular economy. There are Bose headsets provided (although as usual, I just used my own in ear Bose). A small Casper pillow, which I mostly used every bit lumbar support, plus a nicer coating than provided to economy passengers. An assiduities kit is also offered for passengers in PE. Seats have a universal Air-conditioning plug, along with a USB charging port.

Meal service on board

Before departure in Hong Kong, I enjoyed some of excellent Cathay Pacific lounges. Conveniently, the departure gate was but down from my favorite of the bunch, The Pier. The food here let me mostly skip out on the dining options. All classes of service on this route are provided menus. While the descriptions audio decent plenty, the food was rather mediocre. This is the same items offered to economic system, but served on china. Here is the menu:

Here is my main class, with a choice between beef and mushrooms serve over rice. I opted for the short rib. Catering seems better from HKG than LAX, merely I don't think either will win any culinary awards.

There is a mid flying snack service every bit well, just I missed information technology since I was sleeping. This is the same every bit economy, a minor box with a chicken pastry and a sweet block. Finally, about 90 or and so minutes before arrival, another full meal is served. Options of an American breakfast, fruit plate or "Dim Sum". This doesn't look much similar the Dim Sum I've had in Hong Kong, but it was fine for my last chip of Asian nutrient on this trip.

Sad to miss some other upgrade on a long flight this year, but at to the lowest degree I was in Premium Economy. This seat is a articulate improvement in comfort to regular economy. To me, well worth a minor price premium, especially on such a long flight. The seat itself is the same seat family every bit on several of American'south narrow body planes as first class. My flying had favorable winds, which made for a shorter than normal routing. We arrived nearly an hour ahead of schedule, and miraculously, there was even a gate available right abroad at LAX. Service was not very premium, since flying attendants simply serve this cabin before economy. I e'er try to sit in business class on long flights, when possible. PE is a dainty option when that isn't possible. I'd similar to try it on some other airline and see how well they compare with what American offers.
